There is a theory that suggests Khamenei will pick the president from candidates; whoever he picks he will be the president. After all he influences everything in Iran, I mean almost everything.
By the way you shouldn't hold your breathe that with new Preseident, Islamic Iran will soften it's tone about nuclear issue. Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, Supreme Leader of Islamic republic is responsible for all critical decisions in foreign policy and domestic affaris, besides his constitutional functions and duties in Islamic Iran.
He crosses every line and influences country's various powerful, and sometimes bickering, institutions including armed forces, parliament, judiciary, police, security forces and almost every institutions to establish his authority. Let me give you a glimpse of his influence in Islamic Iran's domestic policy:
- In late 1996, following a fatwa by Khamenei stating that music education corrupts the minds of young children, many music schools were closed and music instruction to children under the age of 16 was banned by public establishments.
- In 2000, Ali Khamenei sent a letter to the Iranian parliament forbidding the legislature from debating a revision of the Iranian press law.
- In 2007, Iranian police which acts under the control of Supreme leader, launched a "Public Security Plan": The police arrested dozens of "thugs" to increase public security. The arrested "thugs" are sometimes beaten on camera in front of neighborhood inhabitants, or forced to wear hanging watering cans used for lavatory ablutions around their necks.
- In July 2007, Khamenei criticized Iranian women's rights activists and the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women (CEDAW).source
Islamic Iran nuclear issues or any other issues won't disappear with new President overnight as long as Ayatollah Khamenei controls everything in Iran. I hope so, I established this fact forever with you guys.
